Civil rights training

The Margarida Maria Alves Human Rights Foundation (FDDHMMA) in João Pessoa, Paraíba, provides training for community leaders and shanty-town dwellers on civil rights and the law.

The training not only makes people aware of their legally-guaranteed rights, but also gives them the capacity to defend those rights. Participants in the courses become lay-lawyers and deal with problems such as police and domestic violence, housing rights and child abuse.
