Defending indigenous people's rights

COIAB, the Coordination of the Indigenous Organisations of the Brazilian Amazon, unites 74 indigenous organisations that represent 165 indigenous peoples (people based in Brazil prior to colonisation by the Portuguese).

COIAB defends and promotes indigenous rights and supports alternative income-generating initiatives. It also supports health and education projects with indigenous communities and raises awareness among the non-indigenous community of the customs, language, beliefs, and traditions of indigenous peoples.
