What you can do to help
We are urging all parishes to support our scheme. With your time, energy and commitment, Focus Africa will meaningfully help communities fighting poverty
Make Poverty History has proven the power of strength in numbers – together we are all part of the solution.
We need you to help CAFOD fight poverty and hunger in Africa in three ways:
If you look at CAFOD's values, they're not just about shaking a collecting box, it's about compassion and solidarity
Fundraising
We need your parish to fundraise for Focus Africa – through themed and sponsored events, collections, quiz nights, coffee mornings and other community events.
The money you raise will be carefully targeted at reducing poverty in the communities in which we work.
Prayer
Through our quarterly updates, and these web pages, we will suggest ways in which you can make Africa and the people CAFOD works with the focus of your parish’s prayers.
We will give you ideas for talks, readings and reflections.
Taking action
Fighting poverty needs action as well as money. We will be suggesting ways you can take action to raise awareness of the problems and do something about them – whether it is buying fairly traded goods, writing to your MP about a particular issue, or raising awareness in your local community of particular communities in need.
Be part of the solution
With your support CAFOD and its partners can meet the need and reduce poverty through:
- emergency responses
- long-term development work
- campaigning – pressuring and persuading governments to do more
You are part of this, and your support is vital for it to continue.
