CAFOD works with all people, regardless of their race, gender, religion or politics - this includes partnering with aid agencies from other faiths

In 2003 we made a significant commitment to our interfaith work by signing an historic Memorandum of Understanding with Islamic Relief Worldwide – pledging to support each other’s joint emergency work and to strengthen communications.

Thanks to this agreement, when a massive earthquake struck in Iran in December 2003, CAFOD was immediately able to send £100,000 to Islamic Relief Worldwide, whose staff worked with the Iranian Red Crescent to provide emergency relief to some of the 70,000 families left homeless in Bam.

What we’ve achieved through working with CAFOD is a unity of purpose. We have a multi-cultural society not just in the UK but around the world

In the aftermath of the earthquake, CAFOD contributed a further £60,000 to Islamic Relief Worldwide for a programme to construct 400 temporary all-weather and earthquake-resistant houses in Bam.
