Meet the team

CAFOD's public policy team researches and analyses international policies that affect poor communities, and where appropriate, suggests alternative policies that will help reduce poverty

Joanne Green, head of public policy
Ensures CAFOD's advocacy strategies effectively target key decision-makers, manages the Policy Unit and contributes to the management of the Advocacy Department, maintain's CAFOD's commitment to evidence-based policy messages, represents CAFOD to decision-makers and the media on cross-cutting policy issues, works with staff in BOAG agencies to support a coordinated approach on issues impacting development.

Anne Lindsay, private sector policy analyst
Most recent work has been researching material for the CAFOD Unearth Justice Campaign. Also works closely with the Publish What You Pay (PWYP) global coalition, and supply chain labour standards, such as the successful Clean Up Your Computer campaign.

Sonya Maldar, extractives campaign policy analyst
Works on the Unearth Justice Campaign, seeking to influence the policies and practices of mining companies, such as calling for published details of their payments to local and national governments. This can reduce the potential for corruption and enable citizens to hold governments to account for how mining profits are spent.

Liz Gallagher, policy researcher - climate change
Supports and provides policy input to CAFOD's Climate Change campaign, urging industrialised countries to significantly curtail their greenhouse gas emissions whilst providing additional finance to developing countries to adapt to climate change and develop sustainably. In addition, CAFOD is working with our partners to ensure their voices are heard in the global climate change negotiations.

Matteo Bocci, policy analyst for aid effectiveness/ accountability
Works closely with CAFOD's International Division to monitor and investigate emerging issues related to effectiveness of development aid. Through networks in London and internationally, voicing the needs of people in Africa, Latin America and Asia to donor countries and institutions.

Gwen Barry, senior advocacy accompanier
Manages the advocacy accompaniment within CAFOD, which is the work done to support CAFOD partners involved in advocacy work and building their capacity. She also works directly with CAFOD's partners and country programmes in Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Cambodia - helping them think through the way they influence to ensure change. In addition she is currently developing a tool to help CAFOD and our partners monitor our advocacy work.

Janet Gunter, advocacy accompanier
Janet supports partners involved in advocacy work, and working alongside them in the field collecting evidence to influence or challenge decision makers. At the moment her work is focused on three priority countries: Mozambique, East Timor and Brazil. Janet also blogs for CAFOD about her work.
