Unearth Justice

BHP Billiton is the world’s largest and most powerful mining company. With that power comes the responsibility to meet the highest corporate standards.

Kept in the dark - a new report released as part of CAFOD's Unearth Justice campaign - shows how in Macambol, Philippines, BHP Billiton and its partner AMCOR have not lived up to this responsibility.

Community members here claim that they have been kept in the dark, excluded from discussions and prevented from having an informed say over this proposed nickel mine.

They say that bribery by AMCOR has been used to buy support and silence opposition and fear that their local environment, way of life and means of earning a living are under threat.

Kept in the dark and other Unearth Justice reports and briefing papers can be downloaded here.
